Retinue was first presented in 1981 as a group of 23 silver gelatin prints, each measuring 7 1/2 X 9 1/2 inches, made from 4X5 negatives, mounted and matted with 14 X 18 rag board. The second presentation was made in the 1990's, each measuring 10 1/4 X 13 3/8 inches, mounted and matted with 16 X 20 rag board. There are more than 100 images in the original set; an example set of ten are presented here. Subject matter of the photographs consists of small groups of people, five to seven in each photograph, who serve as employees, servants, followers, or assistants in attendance to a person or cause of rank or importance.
